Staff Spotlight: Real-World Independence & Health Milestones with Coach Jeff Savage

By: The InMotion Team

At InMotion Personal Training, we believe that achievements inside the gym only matter if they make your life outside the gym noticeably better. We don't train for superficial metrics; we train so you can move freely, protect your longevity, and live life entirely on your own terms.

Today, we are thrilled to feature one of the passionate coaches driving that mission forward at our Maple Ave studio: Coach Jeff Savage!

We sat down with Jeff to dive into his coaching philosophy, what milestones get him most fired up on the training floor, and his top advice for lifelong health.

Q: InMotion focuses heavily on Functional Movement. What does that mean to you in your coaching style?

Coach Jeff Savage:

"Within my method of coaching, it's important for people to achieve their goals—that's why they come. More importantly, my urgency is to give agency away from the gym.

Examples such as being able to move, exercise, or play with your kids or grandkids pain-free, the ability to retrieve something that fell to the ground without needing assistance to get back up, sleeping with less shoulder or neck pain, or just playing tennis with friends. Functional Movement is just that: the ability to move freely within your own life and on your own terms."

Q: What kind of client goals or physical milestones do you get most excited about helping people achieve?

Coach Jeff Savage:

"Weight loss is cute, gaining functional muscle can be impressive... but dropping your blood pressure? That's a milestone. Reducing or eliminating medication? That's exciting!

Gym accomplishments mean little to nothing if they don't translate to a real-world tangible. Improving and maintaining one's independence and lifestyle is my ultimate focus."

Q: What is one piece of movement or recovery advice you find yourself giving out to clients the most?

Coach Jeff Savage:

"Eat real food. Real food can be defined as anything that has a mother or comes from the ground. This is urgent because you cannot out-exercise a bad diet.

Secondly is this phrase: 'Get up, get out, and get moving.' It's a simple maxim to incentivize movement of any kind—especially that which can be done outdoors."
